Final Blog
For the last week I have been blogging about the RSC, which stands recreational sports center. In my recent blogs, I was trying to inform you all with what all the RSC has to offer to the students and to the faculty members here at Purdue University. My second day of blogging, I talked about how I explored the RSC by walking throughout the entire building. I explained everything that was on each floor and where you could find anything of your interest. I also talked about the RSC hours of operation. My plans for the next day did not turn out so good. I thought that I was going to have my meeting with Sara, who is a student facility manager, but that did not go as planned. Inside I got a hold of Doug who was working the front desk. He told me about the aquatics center, and where it is located, directions to get there, and the hours it is available to students. In my next blog, I talked about experiencing the RSC at first hand. In my most recent one I explained all about the RSC, from its fees to the classes that are offered at the recreational sports center. I talked about the equipment and the availability of a personal trainer or a fitness assessment if you happen to be interested. All of these things were offered at Purdue University’s RSC. I believe I have kept my word in offering you as much information about the RSC as I could. I now hope you will take what I have learned and informed you about and pursue the great opportunity of using all the wonderful things Purdue University’s Recreational Sports Center has to offer!

Last bit of Information
In today’s blog I am going to go back over the things that I went over in the meeting with Sara, and I will talk about some of the information she gave me. First, let’s go over some of the fees at the RSC. For a full-time student, it is free for a RSC membership. If a full-time student’s family wishes to have a one year membership it will cost them about 180 dollars. If they wish to have a membership for just one semester, they would have to pay 70 dollars. If you are a faculty member, a one year membership is $140, and for a semester it’s $65. Faculty members can have a family membership for a single year for $330 and $140 for one semester. Now let me explain the locker costs at the RSC. For a half locker, it will cost you $43.75 per year and $18.75 per semester. For a one year full locker, you are looking at $68.75 per year, and $31.25 per semester. There is also a one year deal for towels and it is $43.75. For one semester of towel services, you will pay $18.75. Next I have a website that will navigate you to a site where you can see all the cardio equipment, selectorized machines, the free weight equipment, and the free motion equipment (http://www.purdue.edu/RecSports/facilities/colby.htm ). I now am going to turn to some classes you can take at Purdue University’s RSC, which are called Learn-to-Play. These classes do cost money, unfortunately. The classes that cost $77 dollars are Power Yoga, Vinyasa Yoga, PiYo, Cycle, Cycle In/Yoga Out, Cycle Pilates, Good Morning Ride, Cycle Strength, kickboxing, and Go The Distance. There are two classes that are offered for $57.75 and they are Yoga Flow, and Pumped up PiYo. The next two classes are offered for fewer than 40 dollars. They are TGIF Cycle for $38.50 and Winter Cycle Ultimate for $31.50. The RSC offer jobs to Purdue students. You can officiate, lifeguard, and facilitate. Finally, I found out that the RSC offers Personal Training and Fitness Assessments. Hope this information helps and makes you want to go check it out!

Blog #4
Hey so it’s been awhile since I last blogged (three days to be exact), but I haven’t just been sitting around this weekend. I took some time to go and experience the RSC from a personal view. Friday after my meeting I decided to head downstairs and workout in the fitness center. After my meeting, I knew I had 88 types of cardio machines to choose from. I decided to go with one of nine cyber upright bikes. On Saturday, I went with free weight equipment. It was very easy to find what I needed. The best part was that if I needed a spotter or some assistance on a lift, I could ask any one of the staff members working. I found it to be very clean and if I had any reason to think that it was not clean, I could use one of the many sanitary spray bottles complemented with one of many free towels. By the way, they do wash the towels for you after each use. On Sunday, I went to the aquatics center and did some swimming. The pool was freezing, but it was just an amazing facility. The locker room was equipped with a swimsuit dryer, which was very useful. I am currently going over all the information Sara presented me so I can inform you with more information about the RSC. I will talk more about what Sara went over with me in our meeting on Friday tomorrow.

Blog #3
Ok so today wasn’t as good as yesterday, actually it wasn’t good at all. I was planning on having my meeting with Sara, the student facility manager but she didn’t work today. The time we had planned for our meeting I’m guessing is for tomorrow. I talked to Doug, who is a staff member that was working the front desk. He told me she worked tomorrow at the time we are supposed to meet. I am guessing we got our days mixed up. It wasn’t a worthless day though. I asked Doug what he could tell me about the Aquatic center. He told me that it is open on Monday through Thursday from 6:00am to 10:30pm. On Fridays it is open from 6:00am to 8:30pm, on Saturday’s from 10:00am to 6:00pm, and finally on Sundays from 12:00pm to 6:00pm. After hearing all of this I realized I did not even find the swimming pool yesterday. I couldn’t find it! So I asked Doug, “How do you get to the pool?” He told me you have to cut through the men’s locker room on the ground level (women obviously cut through the women’s side) and you’re right there. In conclusion, today wasn’t a total failure. I found out a few bits of information before he had to help to other people. Hopefully tomorrow, when I have the meeting, I will hope to find out much more information about the RSC.

Blog #2
Today was great! I had a good day for my investigation on the RSC. I first went in today to just take a look around and see if I could set up an interview to gain some inside information. I have scheduled a meeting with Sara, who is a student facility manager. That wasn’t too hard and did not take a lot of time. I still had an hour and fifteen minutes until my next class, so I decided to do some exploring. I was at the RSC welcome center on level one of five different levels. I then made my way to the lower level (the basement) and worked my way up. The lower level consisted of the fitness Center, racquetball courts, and the functional fitness. The next level I came upon was the ground level. This level has both a men’s and women’s locker room. It contains an equipment center, but I have yet to find out if it costs anything to rent. Next was the west and east gyms, which have six total courts for basketball. There is a room for boxing as well. That’s all I saw on this level and I went back level one where I found two other gyms. One was for indoor soccer and the other was open. It didn’t have any baskets or anything! I will be sure to ask Sara what that is all about. Then there were six more rooms on this level, and I want to see what these are used for as well. The last level is level two and three combined. It is called the main gym and has four courts: two that are used for volleyball, one court full of badminton nets, and the last court was open, I believe for basketball. Now for the third level, which is in the main gym except if you go up a set of stairs there is a running, walking track. This in total took me about forty minutes to walk all the way through and look around. As you can tell, there is a lot to offer at the RSC. I cannot wait to find out more in my meeting tomorrow with Sara. Oh, and before I go I also found out the Spring RSC hours from January 11th – May 7th, 2009. They are: Monday through Friday from 5:30am to 1:00am, Saturday from 8:00am to 1:00am, and finally Sunday from 11:00am to 1:00am. It is open pretty much all the time. Thanks, and be sure to check and see what all I find out in the meeting.

Blog #1
Hello there, I am Austin, a student at Purdue University. For the next week, I’ll be blogging on this website about everything I can learn about the Purdue RSC. You may be asking yourself now what is the RSC? This is exactly want I want you to think. Many of you may think you may know all about the RSC. Well, what I am going to do with this blog is hopefully prove you wrong. In doing so, I will provide you with lots information that could help. First, the RSC stands for recreational sports center, which many people call the “co-rec.” I am going to look into this and find out as much as I can about what it has to offer to you as students and faculty. I will be looking into the cost for a membership, as well as certain fees. I am planning on finding out my information by setting up some interviews with staff members at the RSC, and talking to my peers and seeing what they enjoy at the “co-rec.” I will be updating everyday on what I have learned and informing you with everything I can about the recreational sports center.
